Recuerdos del instituto por Paula Muros de 1º Bach. A
Paula Muros, de 1º Bachillerato A, nos ofrece esta espléndida narración en inglés en conmemoración del 50 aniversario del instituto:
MY HIGH SCHOOL 40 YEARS AGO
My name is Paula and I’m studying at a high school
called Virgen de la Caridad. This year is the 50th anniversary of
the high school and mi English teacher suggested me to make a project that
consists of asking some questions to my mum because she studied as the same
high school as me 40 years ago and also,
it can be interesting to know the high school was before.
The first question that I asked to my mum was if there
was anything in the high school that there was not before. She said to me that
the high technology, for instance, computers and smart boards. The only thing
that she had, was a simple blackboard where you only could use a chalk. Another
difference was that the high school was located in another place where now,
there is a music school where I played the guitar.
The second question was: how was the timetable before?
She said to me that 40 years ago, she had lessons in the morning and in the
afternoon too. And as the timetable was longer than now, she had less fee time
to do whenever she wanted, staying with her friends, go for a coffee, go to the library to read a
book…..
The third question was if the teachers were as strict
as now. She told me that in the past, teachers weren’t less strict than now.
For instance, she could leave the high school whenever she wanted. Sometimes,
my mum had left the high school to go to a café that was in front of the school
and, nowadays it still exists, it’s called “El Alamo”.
The fourth question was: how many courses there were
before and if they have changed a lot. She said that yes, a lot. In the past,
she only had 4 years and none of them was compulsory. The “Compulsory Secondary
Education” didn’t exist.
The last question that I asked my mum was if there
were the same subjects an now. She said that more or less were the same.
However, they didn’t have the option of being bilingual and therefore, they
didn’t have to learn French. Another
curiosity was tat in the second year of high school, she had to learn latin.
To sum up, from my point of view, I realised that as
time goes by, everything changes, from education to the way we interact with
other people.
